A Simple Question

We asked children (ages 7-9), preteens (ages 10-12), and teenagers (ages 13-16) from around the world to write for the Review in August. The following article is one they produced. —Editors 

Sometimes sharing your faith doesn’t start with a sermon or a big outreach event. Sometimes it starts with a simple conversation.

My name is Vicky Pita, and I’m a tenth grader at Atholton Adventist Academy. Like many Christian teenagers, I’ve grown up hearing that we should always be ready to share our faith. But sometimes we don’t know where to start or how to do it.

A friend of mine once described himself as feeling “far from God.” He believed in God but felt distant and inconsistent in his faith. Instead of trying to lecture him, I just asked a simple question: Would you want to study the Bible together sometime?Like my friend, many people want to grow spiritually but don’t know where to start.

I felt unprepared and not good enough to lead out in a Bible study, as I had never done it before, but I felt that God was calling me to witness to my friend—so we started studying the Bible. I felt God’s presence as we opened His Word. I was excited when he began asking all sorts of questions, and I saw the fascination in his face as he learned more about the Savior.

One evening my friend and I were going over Daniel’s interpretation of King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. He was fascinated by how Daniel’s interpreted timeline aligned perfectly with history. Every event came to pass exactly how the Bible said it would. My friend said he had never thought about the world being planned out in advance that way. He was amazed by how much attention God put into His plan for the world.

Seeing his enthusiasm made me pause and take in how amazing the Bible truly is. In that moment I realized that God was working not only in my friend’s heart but in mine, too.

This experience taught me that sharing about God’s love doesn’t have to be complicated and forceful. It just takes the willingness to say the first word. You never know whose life might be changed by something as simple as reading a verse together.

In moments like these, I am reminded of what Matthew 18:20 says: “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” Even in a simple Bible study between two friends, God is present.
